2019 Toyota C-HR

SCHEDULE A TEST DRIVE

Overview

The C-HR (which stands for "Coupe High-Rider") is a stylish, athletic crossover that's stuffed with attractive tech and safety features to guarantee comfort, control, and consistency for the ideal driving experience.

Originally developed for Toyota’s Scion sub-brand, the C-HR carries on that imprint’s penchant for bold styling and responsive handling. The base LE model comes comfortably equipped with a long list of standard features, including advanced safety technology. The C-HR is also offered premium XLE and Limited trims, which add even more functionality and upgrades.

The Perfect Ride for…

Drivers looking for the functionality and versatility of a crossover like the RAV4 with a smaller footprint and a focus on driver excitement. When you’re searching for a vehicle that exemplifies the sheer pleasure of driving, the 2019 Toyota C-HR delivers on multiple fronts: it offers a driver-focused cockpit to ensure you're always in control; its athletic stance and nimble handling elevate your experience on every curve; and standard Toyota Safety Sense™-P (TSS-P)—a suite of active safety technologies—allows you to enjoy all of the above and peace of mind.

Drive & Handling

All three trims of the 2019 Toyota C-HR are powered by a punchy 2.0-liter four-cylinder dual-overhead, which produces 144 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque. A Continuously Variable Transmission with intelligence and Shift mode (CVTi-S) powers the engine in a front-wheel-drive configuration.

A host of technologies, including Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Valvematic, work behind the scenes to optimize fuel economy and handling. The result is an EPA-estimated 27 city/31 highway/29 combined mpg.* Thanks to the transmission’s new belt structure, you’ll also notice a more serene driving experience with reduced cabin noise.

Behind the wheel, you’ll quickly fall in love with the multiple driving modes the C-HR has to offer. Switching over to Sport mode via the Multi-Information Display (MID) heightens throttle responsiveness, quickens “step-up” shifts, and keeps engine speed consistent in order to enhance acceleration. You’ll definitely feel the difference, especially when you’re merging onto the freeway or hugging the curves on a winding road.

For an even more responsive driving experience, push the gearshift to the left while in Drive to engage the seven-speed Sequential Shiftmatic. This feature lets you shift simulated gears at your pleasure, elevating the relationship between you and the vehicle.

Key Features

Toyota Safety Sense - P™ (TSS-P)

This advanced active safety suite comes standard on the 2019 C-HR, which is expected to be the only vehicle in its segment with standard Pre-Collision System with Active Braking, as well as the only vehicle in the compact crossover market with Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control as standard equipment. TSS-P also includes Automatic High Beams (AHB) and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist function (LDA w/SA), which signals the driver with an audio and visual alert when the vehicle starts to unintentionally deviate from its lane.

Driver Distraction Secure Audio (DDSA) and Brake Hold Function

Furthering Toyota’s ongoing commitment to safety, these Toyota-first safety features are designed to further protect you and your passengers on the road. In compliance with the NHTSA’s Driver Distraction Guidelines, DDSA prevents certain multimedia items from being selected when the vehicle is in motion (perfect for new or young drivers). Brake Hold Function maintains braking force at all four wheels when the vehicle comes to a complete stop, keeping the vehicle stationary even if the driver releases pressure on the brake pedal.

Alternative Options

Depending on your needs, you may want to consider the larger Toyota 4Runner SUV, which offers plenty of cargo room and unstoppable versatility. On the other hand, the Toyota Highlander is a full-fledged SUV with spacious three-row seating.
